ETHOS
Waste not!
Many jewelry brands make 'fast jewelry'. Mass produced, hundreds to thousands in stock, with little or no quality control.
Who makes this stuff? What is it really made of? Where do these things come from?
Those are valuable questions to ask, and to have answers to.
Mantis is slow and steady. At the moment, all pieces are handmade by me, Penelope.
(I wanted to insert a photo here, but all my best photos are with my children; and ain't nobody got time for professional photos right now. If you would like to glimpse who I am,
Please follow Mantis' Instagram account. We're newly minted and will be posting more content soon. Bisous!)
Mantis is committed to quality, ethics, and sustainability.
• Sustainability
Each piece is made on demand, unless otherwise stated in the product description.
I don't want to waste precious silk, metals, or pearls by making excess pieces, to end up taking them apart to make part of different designs.
I also want to be sustainable with my own time and effort. My most important job in this world is Mother.
• Ethics and Quality
None of our goods, or components of those goods, are made or procured by child labor.
All of our components are either made in the United States, or responsibly sourced abroad.
We buy pearls from individuals who buy direct from pearl farmers in China.
China is home to the most diverse and unique types of freshwater pearls; here buying from China isn't a way to 'get stuff cheap'. These pearls are only created there, and are in great demand.
**Be on the lookout for our announcement of our Pearl Glossary, for answers to your questions about pearls!
Oh the Humanity!
Many people on our lovely planet suffer at the hands of capitalism.
Mantis devotes time and effort to give to those who need it most.
Every quarter of the year 2% of profits will be donated to charities helping children around the world, and closer to home. The charities chosen will be disclosed through our Instagram, and Pinterest, as well as our Humanities Newsletter, which will go out monthly.
Mantis is my dream job. All kinds of dreams can be achieved one way or another.
Mantis is the beginning of a big one.
Thank you for being here,
Bisous!
